Our mediation projects and training for housing associations
We are committed to transforming the local community by supporting disputes with mediation. Our commitment doesn’t end with our team of mediator volunteers. We also run conflict resolution training and pioneer innovative mediation projects.
We often speak about this work as ‘preventative’, meaning that it actually prevents many complaints from escalating into a serious crisis point. In turn we see this as a major contribution to the transformation of local disputes to peaceful communities.
It works
We believe it works, this is what some people have said: In our last conflict resolution training over 70% of trainees said the course would “greatly affect” their day to day interactions with other people. One trainee, Mike, described his intentions “to make changes for the better in my relationship with my daughter and with numerous people in my life”.
Tailored solutions
Our project work is innovative, using mediation to respond to specific community needs. From working with excluded young people to engaging with neighbours in conflict, we will put together individual approaches that make a real difference to people’s lives.
One challenge we were asked to support with involved working within the community to respond to high levels of anti-social behaviour. We responded by putting together a training programme for housing association tenants to become mediators and using them to mediate disputes within their own community.
